Slow Food
|
 |
I've read over the past few years about the Slow Food Movement. Slow Food International describes the movement as follows:
An "international movement opposing fast food and promoting dining as a source of pleasure."

This makes a lot of sense to me and my Slow Down FAST philosophy, so I thought I'd give it a try. With my wife working away from the home, some recent travel I experienced, and an increasingly-busy world, our meals together seemed to be growing further apart and much less nutritious.
So for the last 3 weeks, I've been cooking dinner for the two of us. It doesn't take a great deal of my time, and it makes my wife's life infinitely easier. Besides that, we're able to sit down for at least a half hour or so a day to engage in unhurried conversation.
I can only begin to tell you the of the additional benefits which include a break from the hustle-bustle schedule I sometimes work myself into, a loss of weight, and a true feeling of satisfaction through contributing something to my family.
Slow Food is about taking the time to slow down and to enjoy life with family and loved ones - similarly to the Slow Down FAST process. Give it a try!
As I forge ahead, I simply have to remember to Slow Down (and FAST!). - to take the time I need for myself and for those I love.

If You Could Do Anything
|
| Today's Feature |
"What would you do if you could do anything?" We've all heard that question, and we all probably have thoughts about what we'd do if.
If money were no object. If no one would laugh. If we had the equipment. If. If. If.
I have a theory that most of us really can do what we most want to do. The problem is twofold. First, we don't know what that is, and second, we don't know how to get started.
Let's start with what would you do. Seriously. Not in some fantasy world where you'd look like Brad Pitt and be a movie star.
If, tomorrow, you could get out of bed and begin a new career, or even a new hobby, what would it be? Glass blowing? Photography? Would you be a therapist, or a real estate agent? What would you do?
Just think about what you love to do and what you would do even if no one paid you. What would you do? What would that be like? Where would you do it? What tools and equipment would you use? Where would you live? What would change in your life?
Form a very vivid picture of what you would do if you could. Fill it in with details, down to what kind of clothes you would wear and what you would eat for lunch. Really put yourself in the picture. What would you do?
Okay. Now that you've figured out what you'd really do, and you have a picture of what that would look like, let's think about how you could get there.
Do you know what it would take to do this? Would you need a new degree, or some special training? Is there something you would need to buy, that you don't have? What would be the first thing you would need to do, to move toward this goal?
Now, what is keeping you from doing that one thing? There are probably good reasons. Maybe you don't have time to go back to school or you can't afford a new guitar. Those are good reasons. But most people stop there, when they realize those are good reasons. We're not going to stop. We're going to go on. What could you do to overcome those obstacles?
Could you take only one class? Could you borrow a guitar or buy one at a pawn shop? Sure, it would take you much longer to get your degree, and the guitar might not be as nice as you would like. But you'd be on your way to your goal.
Very often, once we start moving in the direction of what if, we find that we can get there much more easily than we thought. It's the big "what" part that keeps us from doing that. So get started.
To get started pursuing your dream today:
Identify what you most want to do.
What is the first thing you would have to do?
What are the obstacles and how can you work around them?

Thought for the Day
What if You Lost it All?
What is the worst thing that could happen?
Sometimes we ask that when we're thinking about doing something, but do we really follow it through? What is the worst thing that could happen? What if it did happen? How would you get through that? This is important, I think, because once you know you could get through the worst, you can handle anything.
