Another Aha Moment
|
 |
I just returned from a trip to Florida. I spent a week visiting with my Mom and Dad, Daughter, and brother and sister. It was a much-needed sabbatical.
I had several moments of awakening - some Aha! moments - where I began to get really, really clear about where I was in life, where I wanted to go, and how I was going to get there.

I returned to the cold North with an entirely new outlook on things.
There's nothing like taking time from our day-to-day lives and routines that refreshes the mind and soul.
As I forge ahead, I simply have to remember to Slow Down (and FAST!). - to take the time I need for myself and for those I love.
That's the theme of this week's column. Be sure to check out :

Consciousness: More Than Just Being Aware - Being Where You Want to Be
|
| Today's Feature |
|
Have you ever been lost in thought, wondering about where you wanted to be in life? Perhaps as you sat in a meeting, or enjoyed the fresh colors of spring, you realized how aware you were of your surroundings. But can you say the same for your life? Were you aware of where your life was and where you wanted it to be in the future? Did you feel as if you were in control of your destiny, or were you merely along for the ride?
You may have heard at one time or another someone talking about having an awakening in their life. They become acutely aware of where their life has been, where it is now, and where they want it to be. Often such awakenings come after a notable event takes place - maybe the loss of a loved one, or the introduction to someone with whom you form a strong bond. Sometimes such awakenings come seemingly out of nowhere - sitting in the park enjoying the colors and sounds of spring and having that "Aha!" moment.
In its purest sense, the term awakening means that we become able to do, feel, and believe that which we couldn't before. We find strength within us. This may come from connections we form with others or new resources that provide the catalyst for us to see a clear path to those goals which were obstructed before. This new consciousness, awareness of the tools and resources we now have, gives us renewed strength and determination. We may be able to see the answer to a problem we've been struggling with for months, or we may find a new purpose in life that brings up happiness and fulfillment.
It's not uncommon for many people - people in their 30s, 50s and even 70s - to have this "Aha!" moment where they become keenly aware of where they want to go in life. Countless stories have been told of people who realized that the path they were on in life was providing them with very little purpose or meaning. They were financially rich in some cases, but emotionally and socially poor. These people become conscious of the world they knew and didn't like what they saw. They wanted to leave a better legacy behind them; they wanted to do something that would help others and make their life more fulfilling. It could be a businessman who had amassed millions deciding that he wanted to go into teaching to help the kids of today become the leaders of tomorrow. Or maybe it was a lawyer who realized that his legacy in life was going to be one of defending people who couldn't afford to defend themselves.
I had such an awakening.
When people have this awakening they often find that they discover the love and peace of mind that their life has been missing. Their consciousness takes over to guide them to do what is right for not only them, but for the world at large. Sometimes people turn their lives around 180 degrees - for it is never too late to transform if we are willing to make a change.
The question then becomes: How do we find this awakening and consciousness? It's not something you can make happen - it is something that you must discover on your own.
Look at your life as it is today, then look at the goals you have set forth for your life. Are you working to achieve those goals? Are you doing what you know is right? Is your life filled with the love and the friendship of others? If not, what can you do to change your life so that you do take on the qualities that you desire?
A great place to start is by getting rid of what isn't working and enhancing those things that are.

Thought for the Day
Before the Parade Passes By
Carol Channing's Broadway performance of "Before the Parade Passes By" is one of the most celebrated performances in theatre.
I was thinking about that this weekend, and wondering how much we really think about living our lives, before the parade passes by.
This week, I'm going out to march with the band.
What will you do before the parade passes by?
